Publishing research open access is often regarded as emancipatory, allowing for a democratic distribution of knowledge. But does open access really impact on whose voices are heard in linguistic academia? Does open access publishing impact on traditional academic hierarchies or does it imply new forms of gatekeeping? Is there still skepticism about the impact of open access publishing? It is important to understand, at the disciplinary level for researchers who work with language and society, our attitudes, approaches, and experiences with open access.

Note that the questionnaire is not only directed at people with experience in open access publishing but also scholars with little expertise in practices and discourses surrounding open access.
